mein of kelso mahogany toilet mirror

Circa 1830, neat size mahogany toilet mirror. With a rectangular mahogany frame to the front and sides, and mahogany panel back. The mirror stands on a reeded upright that spreads into 2 sections, finishing on a C scroll as it sits on a platform base. The square base has a complex section at the front and wrap around gallery to the sides. Underneath is the original James Mein of Kelso trade label; it is quite rare for furniture of this period to have the maker’s label. Mein of Kelso came to prominence when they received the contract to refurbish Floors Castle for the Duke of Roxburghe in the 1820s.
