Circa 1810, late George III mahogany sarcophagus shaped tea caddy with brass inlay. The triple stepped top forms out to a nice ogee moulding. Beneath this, is a ribbed section almost like quilling. The lid opens to reveal a felt lined interior, which probably had sections in it originally for tea. There are brass lion mask ring handles on either side. At the bottom is brass beading which continues on all sides, and the whole piece finishes on four elegant raised brass hairy paw feet. Original colour and patination, wonderful example of a caddy of the period.
