Since Rubens in the 17th century, many painters have represented lions or tigers in these scenes. The genre even experienced a resurgence in popularity with orientalists such as of course Eugène Delacroix, all his students and many other painters. Joseph François Parrocel (1704; 1781) He was a student of his father, Pierre Parrocel. Approved by the Academy in 1753, he appeared at the Salons from 1755 to 1781 with historical subjects. He is one of the members of a dynasty of French painters from the 17th century (Barthélémy Parrocel 1595; 1660) to the 19th century (Etienne Antoine Parrocel 1817; 1896). He is a painter of history, battles, mythological subjects... in the direct line of the dynasty. He can be found in many museums such as Avignon, Versailles, Dublin...
