For sale is an impressive Japanese decorative vase from the first half of the 20th century, made of cast and patinated bronze.

The vase features sculptural elephant-head handles, finely modelled in relief, giving the piece strong visual presence and symbolic character. The surface is richly decorated using traditional cloisonné enamel technique, depicting an Eastern scene with an elephant, framed by ornamental patterns.

The neck is adorned with lotus flowers and chrysanthemums, both highly symbolic motifs in East Asian art, representing purity, longevity, and harmony.

The combination of solid bronze casting and detailed cloisonné enamel work reflects high technical skill and artistic craftsmanship. Such complex, multi-material decorative objects were difficult to produce and were typically intended for the higher-end decorative market.

    Marking
Stamped on the base within a framed cartouche: “Made in Japan”

    Origin: Japan
Period: First half of the 20th century
Material: Cast patinated bronze with cloisonné enamel decoration
    Height: approx. 35 cm

    Condition
Good overall vintage condition. Minor age-related wear and surface patina may be present, consistent with age and use (see photos).

A rare and highly decorative example of Japanese export art, ideal for collectors of Asian antiques or as a striking statement piece in an elegant interior.
