A most attractive and interesting 18th century eight day rocking ship longcase clock, the very finely figured mahogany case of elegant proportions.

Christopher Hawksworth was a Bristol maker and the clock dates from circa 1770. Bristol, of course, has always had close maritime connections and many wealthy patrons of the clockmakers to commission excellent clocks. The arch painting, which is all original, is a delight - especially when compared to some of the clocks painted in Victorian times which were extremely poor by comparison. The 12-inch dial is of high quality with fire-gilt spandrels and excellent matting to the centre. This clock can be viewed in the Long Melford Antiques and Lifestyle Centre, Hall Street, Long Melford. They are open Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Delivery and setting up is free within 50 miles of Long Melford. We can deliver anywhere but there may be a charge for a long distance.
