Antique Turkish ?Siirt? Blanket (battaniye).
Circa 1920.
These blankets are made in the town of Siirt, in Turkey. They are a local tradition, woven on simple looms using Mohair wool from the local Angora goats. After waeving the face of the blanket is brushed with a steel comb to produce a very soft long pile.
These blankets make ideal throws for covering furniture or beds, they also make ideal hangings with their bold graphic design.
This example is older than most being woven in 3 strips.
Excellent condition.
Hand washed and ready for use or display.
