Circa 1870, a Victorian papier mache and mother of pearl inlaid games board. The outside has gilded ivy growing on a trestle, and the border around the chess board has vines, grapes and ivy leaves which are painted, gilded and mother of pearl. The chess board itself is ebonised and mother of pearl. It is hinged with patent hinges and opens to show 2 wells with a Chinoiserie painted backgammon board. Beautiful piece and very stylish.
