Circa 1870, Victorian giltwood overmantel mirror of generous proportions. The stylish open fretwork pediment is surmounted by a cherub, held in place by Rococo carved gesso which tapers down the top of the mirror. There are 2 types of gilding on the gesso. The bezel of the mirror has 5 sections all with different types of foliate carving and beading. At the bottom there is a flat section for sitting on the mantelpiece and the mirror is held in place on the left, right and the centre by various foliate carving. The dimensions of the mirror make it very desirable. The condition is clean, as is the mirror. There is a slight foxing on the right hand side.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
