Circa 1880, Victorian carved giltwood mirror by John Taylor of Edinburgh. The oval mirror has a beaded moulding all the way around and the outer section is concave and finishes with a flat edge. Towards the bottom there is open foliate carving and in the centre section is a solid block with a lattice pattern with flower heads. In the centre is a small leaf motif. The mirror has the original plate glass and gilding. On the pine back is the original trade label which states ‘From John Taylor & Son, Carvers Gilders & Frame Makers, Cabinet Makers Upholsterers & Decorators, 199 Princes Street, Edinburgh’. The frame also has the name John Taylor stamped into the wood on the left hand side of the frame and a registration or design number A8150. A well documented Edinburgh mirror.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
