An unusual and excellent example of what must certainly be one of the most intricate forms of inlay used on antique woodenware. In terms of micro mosaic inlays the skills required to produce Sadeli Ware was arguably superior to that of the famous Tunbridge Ware ‘mosaic’ inlaid boxes given the smaller pieces, the varying exact shapes to produce the designs and last but certainly not least the variation of materials used. This particular example differs from most given the pinned hinged lid that enables the lid to sit flush with the top of the base section and the addition of the ‘basket’ type handle. With the exception of some VERY slight loss to the inlays on the corners the box is in truly remarkable condition. Inlays to all aspects of the box. Original finely turned feet and ring pull for the lid. Interior is in very clean condition. This item must be examined closely, preferably with a magnifying glass to get a better appreciation of the skills required to produce such a work of art.
