An unusually decorated Meiji period large Japanese charger from the Arita area c1880. Handed painted central panel in overglazed enamels portraying Manchurian cranes with stylised landscape and sky with a decorated rim. Unusual pallette of colours. Underside decorated in underglaze design. Unmarked base. The charger measures 40.5 cm in diameter and 6cm in height.
This charger is in excellent condition commensurate with age. No chips, cracks or restoration. Several glaze flaws as is commonly seen in antique Arita / Imari porcelain. Some minor areas of overglaze losses to border decoration. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
