Overview:
This is a beautiful Longines platinum and diamond watch I'm releasing from my private collection. Each year I release a number of watches from my collection and they are certainly worth serious consideration. Dating from 1946, the watch is in all-original unrestored condition, apart from the strap/buckle. The watch hasn't photographed well and the macro camera has greatly exaggerated wear on the dial, as well as giving some of the diamonds a yellowish look, which is not the case with the actual watch. I guarantee that the actual watch is better than photographed.
The watch features a solid platinum case, original unrestored diamond dial (seventeen genuine diamonds) with platinum hands, original winding crown, and a very clean, freshly serviced hand-wound Longines 17 jewel movement (Cal 9L). The watch comes complete with a quality lizard strap and a new, quality non-Longines presentation case.
The watch is rare in original condition and will only rise in value, providing an excellent financial investment if looked after. I have left the case in original unpolished condition as some collectors prefer that, but I can at no extra cost have the case professionally polished if you prefer. It was made for the American market and only the very wealthy could afford to buy this watch in 1946, just after the war. I wonder what fabulous society parties it has seen. The style is very much Art Deco.
You can feel confident buying from me. My vintage watch business is my hobby and passion; I co-own venture capital firm Baringxavier (www.baringxavier.com), among other business interests, so I have no interest or need to treat you unprofessionally in any way. And I offer a full refund if you are not entirely happy with your purchase. I also provide a full receipt, six months guarantee (long enough for you to assess working order) and professional insurance valuation. I also welcome you to come and view the watch at our central London address, in New Bond Street - by appointment only. I offer my customers online prices - below value - with offline availability and service.
Case:
The heavy solid platinum case (marked palladium, a form of platinum) is in original, unpolished condition and can be polished to taste. It measures 21mm wide, excluding the original unsigned winding crown x 9mm thick x 39mm long, including the lugs. The case back closes tightly and the inside is signed 'Cased in timed in USA by Longines', 'Palladium' and the '676756' case reference number.
Dial:
The beautiful diamond dial (seventeen genuine diamonds) is original, with no restoration. It is showing some patina, which is less obvious to the eye than in the macro photographs. It is signed 'Longines'. The original platinum hands are in excellent, unbent condition, and the original lens is very clear.
Movement:
The hand-wound Longines 17 jewel Cal 9L movement was one of the best movements made by any watchmaker during this era, including Rolex and Patek. It is in excellent bright, clean condition and is signed 'Longines Watch Co', 'Swiss', 'Seventeen 17 Jewels', 'Unadjusted', '6841370' and '9L'. The movement has just been serviced by a master watchmaker and is in excellent working order.
Strap:
I have put this lovely watch on a dark brown quality lizard strap, which I can change for a different colour if you wish. The watch comes complete with a new, non-Longines watch case.
A rare, highly collectable watch from one of watch history's most famous names; full of charm and elegance. Will provide an excellent financial investment as well as a possession to enjoy.
