    Description:

RICHARD HOUSTON (1721-1775) 18thc REVERSE MEZZOTINT PORTRAIT ON GLASS 'DUCHESS'

A truly outstanding original, dirty, untouched, unrestored mid 18th Century framed reverse mezzotint on glass portrait depicting the:

    'Duchess of Hamilton' (1733-1790) ?

The outstanding example Dates to Circa 1740-1760 and is mounted in the fabulous Original Period George II gilt slip frame which suits the picture beautifully.

The attention to detail throughout the work is absolutely marvellous!

The work has inscription to the rear as well as information to the bottom of the inner frame slip.

It is, in my opinion fabulously dirty & original and it is clear that the glass panel has never been removed from the frame.

This is one of a matching pair that we are currently selling, the other work of which is just as original and dirty & depicts:

    'The Countess of Coventry'

These are remarkable examples that were clearly housed in a very very old residence.

The asking price includes our 'Free' UK mainland fully insured delivery service.
