Ref 11500 - A pre War wooden cased Pigeon Timing Clock by the Automatic Timing Clock Co Ltd of Lancashire. Clock number 129516, certificate number 39856. The clock glass is etched with Imperator Toulet, H.Martens & Cie, 129516. The wooden case is beautifully tongued and grooved, measures 7 x 4.5 x 7 inches high, 18 x 11 x 18 cms.
A rubber band arker ring is fitted to the pigeons leg and upon its arrival to its loft, its owner will remove this special band and insert it into the clock timer inside a Thimble and turn a lever thus recording the time the bird arrived home.
Then back at the club house that evening VELOCITY is determined by yards or metres per minute ...quickest time is the winner.
Today, they have computer clocks which can be connected to ones computer at home, the rubber bands are replaced with rings with a microchip in them which sends a signal to the computer clock, without the owner having to handle the bird at all!!! (With thanks to Mario Corral of Australia)
