Circa 1770. A quality pair of mahogany and inlaid George III serpentine fronted, sloping top mahogany knife or cutlery boxes. The flat top with a sloping front in wonderful flame mahogany, all framed in boxwood and ebony. The deep hinged tops open to reveal inlaid star framed with an oval chequered inlaid, the fittings have been removed, leaving an uninterrupted interior. The serpentine front with original heraldic style escutcheon and double string inlay with beadings on the slope and at the base. The fronts have matching flame mahogany, the boxes are polished on all sides and have their original shaped and stylish strap hinges. All finishing on a half round beading which follows the form if the knife boxes.

Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
