ITEM 1465 DESCRIPTION
A painted and glazed ceramic pottery with a canister-type timepiece clock.
This is a piece of 20th-century Art Deco-era German pottery. The ceramic case is an egg-shell colour as the background with gilt rococo 'C' scrolls on the side and back of the case as well as surrounding the painted scene below the gilt glazed dial bezel on the facade.
The front of the case is edged in maroon-colored paint.
The main case is a vertical hexagon with the facade containing the dial and a painting of two shepherdesses with sheep resting in a foliate garden setting, very much in the French style (signed but not legible).
Below the main case is with straight bracket feet and a horizontal gilt painted line.
The beaded gilt spelterware bezel surrounds a small round paper dial with upright Arabic hours and steel Spade hands.
The bottom of the dial is marked Made in Germany.
The back of the case reveals the canister cover for the movement with knobs for setting and time and winding the single spring of this balance wheel movement (portable) and a lever for making the clock run slower or faster.
The back cover appears also to be marked Made in Germany.
Unsigned by the maker, circa 1930s.
