An exceptional silver and crystal sweetmeat basket decorated on the rim with two dolphins flanking a palmette surmounted by a shell alternating with palms on both sides. The slender handles adorned with acanthus leaves and fine fluted patterns on the upper part are terminating with two birds in a nest. A swan forming the plug, a recurring motif during the French First Empire and Restoration surmounts the removable lid. The sweetmeat basket decorated with friezes of small pearls, ova and water leaves rests on a pedestal and a square base on four ball feet. Master silversmith D.G. for Garreau (1817-).
