A small casket for stamps in light wood decorated with a gouache on the lid depicting a contemporary dramatic scene with a hot air balloon releasing from the pod, causing panic among the crowd gathered in a park to witness the scene. This episode is related to the beginning of hot air balloons, when such accidents should have been be recurring. The balloon was invented by Montgolfier brothers in 1782 and multiple flights effectuted from this moment attract crowds captivated by the new equipment, attending each flight as a show. The characters and decor of our casket are painted in a spontanuous manner. The miniature has an octagonal silver frame, encircled by a frieze of pearls and flanked by foliated volutes.
