    Antique Magic Cloth from Burma on Linen (Mandala)

    This cloth is used for magic and astrology. The icons include ogre spirits who have the power to exorcise evil spirits.that possess humans. There is also the image of Buddha. All are borne on the backs of auspicious animals, real (such as the elephant) and mythological (such as the naga). Two figures of Rahu appear above. Rahu is a god responsible for bringing rain. These renditions are on cotton. There is wear and staining related to age and use of this mid 20th Century item. Burma
