Impressively large Meiji Period Japanese Imari charger c1890. Shallow fluted border and scalloped rim. Central panel of chrysanthemums in a vase with other flowers surrounded by panels of flowers and birds to the border. Finely painted in traditional Imari colours with gilt over-glaze. Traditional cobalt blue under-glaze decoration to its underside. This charger is a good example of the Imari porcelain ware that was made for export during the Meiji period. It has an unglazed foot and imprints on its underside from supports used during firing. Ground has a blue tint. Typically unmarked. This charger measures 46 cm in diameter and 6.5cm in height.
This charger is in excellent original condition with no chips, cracks or restoration. Wear to the applied gold enamel on its rim commensurate with age and minor firing flaws as is typical. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
