One of the more rare Art Deco clocks is this wonderfully stylish and totally authentic 1930's Art Deco clock by ATO the French clock makers. This clock has a mixtures of materials, mainly wood, chrome and glass. Very iconic looking clock that couldn't be mistaken for any other era could it? So advanced in its design for its time. ATO, one of the most popular Art Deco clocks, this is a very collectable model. It has a glass dial with highly stylised numerals. The mechanism has been replaced by a Kienzle battery mechanism.
Short bio below.
ATO is short for Hatot (Leon Hatot) Léon Hatot born 22.04.1883 died 11.09.1953. He was a French clock maker and is famous for producing one of the first battery operated clocks in the 1920s. He patented the Classic form of pendulum which used a magnet and coils to impulse the pendulum. This is done by the current from the first coil switching a transistor which supplies a larger current to the second coil at the right moment. Lalique supplied some of the glass panels for some of his clocks. He used various materials to produce his clocks, marble, onyx, bakelite, wood and glass.
