Circa 1837, ladies travelling case in rosewood. The box is by Edwards of London, as noted in the leather section to the lid: ‘Edwards, Manufacturers to His Majesty, 21 King Street, Bloomsbury, London’. The silverware are hallmarked and are likely by Thomas Dicks, London, and are engraved with the name Mary. The rosewood box has string inlay to the top, brass rounded corners, flush brass military handles, Brahma lock at the front and brass at the base. The top tier is extensively fitted out with different shaped bottles, and inkwells, all hallmarked and the front section opens out by 2 small lifting handles. There are 2 brushes with bristle and ivory in this section, which can also be lifted out revealing various compartments within the case. The lid is crushed velour and there is a small clasp on it and it opens to show a leather section for storing letters.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
