This excellent quality tanto is 10.75 inches overall in length with a 6 inch blade. The wood scabbard and hilt are sheathed with lavishly decorated brass repousse incorporating mons and flowers
Brass and rayskin to the tip, the kashira end is missing , it needs this replacing and some tidying/tightening work to realise it's full potential, a nice piece even so.
Decorated blade with makers mark. Early Meiji period.
We will get around to the work, which when done will add considerable value/price to the piece.
In the meantime I am happy for it to sit online for anyone wanting it at a price reflecting the work needing to be done.

Yamabushi came about through a long time involvement in the martial arts, which brought about an interest in Japanese weaponry and antiques from the Samurai era up to edged weapons of the Japanese in the second world war. I now buy and sell items worldwide, the vast majority of them coming direct from Japan via trusted dealers I have traded with for some years. Stock varies and is constantly changing, though I do have a particular leaning towards hand weapons and tansu, I am always willing to try and source items for customers. I have provided quality pieces to museums, TV and theatre companies worldwide. I try to keep our price range affordable rather than high end arty, but these are often dictated by shipping costs, customs charges, etc. For your assurance I offer a no quibble returns policy should an item not be as expected, for further piece of mind I accept payment by Paypal, along with my preference of payment via bank transfer.
