A 19th century Victorian bombe shaped bureau with a cabinet top. The bureau is quarter veneered in kingwood and is parquetry inlaid with figured walnut. The bureau has gilt metal mounts and stands on four cabriole shaped legs. The shaped flap opens and is supported by gilded metal arms and has it's original blue leather with gold tooling writing surface. The interior has a storage area above three shaped drawers veneered in figured maple and root wood with gilt metal handles. To the front of the drawers is a disguised storage area that slides backwards for access and is veneered in burr walnut and cross banded. The cabinet top has a pair of serpentine glazed doors and a gilt metal gallery back. The inside of the cabinet is lined in blue velvet and has a single loose shelf with a gilt metal bead front. The bureau is in very good original condition and is signed on the secondary wood top 'Made by A Dickman 251 Tottenham Crt Road London 1870', Alexander Andrew Dickman is listed as a Cabinet Maker in Tottenham court road in the 1860's.
