    kodansu japanese personal chest tansu

Known as a kodansu (small personal tansu chest), this tansu chest was made in the late Edo Era (c. 1850) .
The kodansu was used to store personal accessories as well as money, documents and other valuables.

It has 3 full length drawers
2 smaller, 1 with lock, not working.

Drawers would have originally had a vertical locking bar
As in a lot of cases it is not unusual for these to be absent
They would be put aside when in use become misplaced and seperated
Some flaws to finish, has had work done at times, overall very good finish
Repaired damage to top, solid repair, looks worse than is.
Very nice brown finish , with lovely patina
This is a very solid piece
    Width 22 inch / 56 cm
    Depth 12.25 inch / 31 cm
    Height 23 inch / 58 cm
Kodansu are really nice sized pieces
Big enough to impress, small enough to fit in anywhere
An excellent looking piece that would not look out of place in any Tansu collection
Very solid piece in excellent condition
Having been maintained using traditional methods
Some historic bug evidence long since treated
Plus re-treated by me on delivery, as I do with all items I aquire
Some knocks and wear consistent with age as to be expected
All add to the rich patina finish which only age can give

Yamabushi came about through a long time involvement in the martial arts, which brought about an interest in Japanese weaponry and antiques from the Samurai era up to edged weapons of the Japanese in the second world war. I now buy and sell items worldwide, the vast majority of them coming direct from Japan via trusted dealers I have traded with for some years. Stock varies and is constantly changing, though I do have a particular leaning towards hand weapons and tansu, I am always willing to try and source items for customers. I have provided quality pieces to museums, TV and theatre companies worldwide. I try to keep our price range affordable rather than high end arty, but these are often dictated by shipping costs, customs charges, etc. For your assurance I offer a no quibble returns policy should an item not be as expected, for further piece of mind I accept payment by Paypal, along with my preference of payment via bank transfer.
