kodansu japanese personal chest tansu

Known as a kodansu (small personal tansu chest), this tansu chest was made in the late Edo Era (c. 1850) .
The kodansu was used to store personal accessories as well as money, documents and other valuables.

It has 3 full length drawers
2 smaller, 1 with lock, not working.
Drawers would have originally had a vertical locking bar
As in a lot of cases it is not unusual for these to be absent
They would be put aside when in use become misplaced and seperatedSome flaws to finish, has had work done at times, overall very good finish
Repaired damage to top, solid repair, looks worse than is.
