    JOHN BURR  R.O.I.  R.B.A.  A.R.W.S. (1831-1893) Scottish. A beautiful large signed oil by John Burr the Edinburgh born painter of children and humorous genre scenes. This work is fully signed and depicts a naughty young boy being sent back to school by his teacher who's been patrolling the streets looking for him. Two young girls watch the naughty boy as he heads back through the school gates, hastened by the teacher and her cane. How things have changed!.
     
    The work dates to around 1870 and is in ready to hang condition.

     John Burr was the brother of Alexander Holenlode Burr. John studied at the Trustees' Academy in Edinburgh where he worked for a time before going to live in London. He exhibited in London at the Royal Academy, the British Institution, the Royal Society of British Artists on Suffolk Street, the Society of Painters in Watercolours and the Grafton Gallery until 1892. He was a member of the Royal Society of British Artists and an associate member of the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours.
