In Cambodia, the Earth Goddess is known as Phra Mae Thorani, Mother of Earth. This served as an amulet. She holds a very prominent role in Buddhism as she assisted the Siddhartha Gautma in achieving enlightenment by vanquishing his enemies, led by Mara. She accomplished this by twisting her long hair creating torrents of water which washed away Mara and his army, thus freeing the Gautma to reach enlightenment and become the Buddha.
