Antique Impressive Decorative Pair of Canova's Marble Lions

This is a beautifully sculpted pair of marble lions from the originals by Canova.

The attention to detail throughout the piece is second to none.

This high quality pair is made from reconstitutedmarble.

It is a lovely pair which will look lovely in most interiors.

The original lions were carved in 1792 by the Italian sculptor, Antonio Canova (1757-1822) for the monumental tomb of Pope Clement XIII in St Peter's Basilica in Rome. The lions are crouching at the base of the tomb: one vigilant, the other sleeping.

Marble dust is combined with cement or synthetic resins to make reconstituted or cultured marble. The appearance of marble can be simulated with faux marbling, a painting technique that imitates the stone's colour patterns.
