The table is typical of Victorian style furniture. It is made from burr walnut which is not only strong, but has a beautiful grain. To highlight the grain, this table has been French polished. A French polish is an alcohol and shellac polish for wood. It takes a lot of patience and hard work, but it is one of the most beautiful finishes available, producing an exceptionally high gloss. The table has four extendable leaves which can be added or removed as required by a special double wind out mechanism. When completely wound in, the table is transformed into a round dining table. The four detachable table leaves can be stored away until they are required. Six elegantly carved legs hold up the large table and are on fabulous solid brass castors. The table opens and closes by means of a telescopic winding mechanism which you open and close by means of a handle inserted into one end. The table top has exquisite marquetry decorations. These regal decorations include bouquets of beautiful flowers. Measurements When fully extended the table measures approximately 500cm ( 16ft 8 inches) long and 180 cm ( 6ft )wide. When fully closed the table has a diameter of 180 cm ( 6ft). The 4 leaves are 80 cm ( 31.5 inches)each. The dining chairs are not included but can be purchased as well.
