A good quality oil on canvas Regency period portrait of a gentleman. The painting shows a seated gentleman in blue coat with typical regency lace shirt and collars, he has very interesting fingerless gloves. The work is very well painted and is a striking image, but as is often the case with this type of work it is unsigned. The painting is mounted in a later Victorian period frame, and the whole works very well together and really has the old country house look about it. The painting has been lined some time ago but there are no visible repairs or restoration, the painting does have a craqueleure of age. There are some old repairs to the frame, though it retains the original gilding. C.1810.
