Circa 1820, very unusual exhibition quality George IV Canterbury, probably by Gillows of Lancaster. This unusual piece of furniture has a solid mahogany back and two scrolling arms supported by three fine spindles and turned uprights at the front, which are united by three horizontal turned stretchers. Beneath this is a single drawer with wonderful carved Gillows style handles and a simple lock with a brass rounded escutcheon. The whole piece stands on elegant turned feet finishing on cast brass cup castors. Beautiful colour and condition.
