Circa 1900, George III style oval mahogany wine cooler/Vin de Garde. The oval top has kingwood banding and satinwood inlay. The fore edges are veneered in mahogany and there is a large mahogany beading below. The main body of the piece is made from staved mahogany which has been veneered in flame mahogany on the outside; quite a sophisticated process. Each of the panels is framed with satinwood, ebony and boxwood inlay and has a wonderful rich deep colour. There is a single escutcheon on the front. Beneath the body of the piece there is an ogee moulding and the whole piece stands on a mahogany frame with a simple apron. From this protrude 4 square tapering legs finishing on brass tipped castors. Although a Vin de Garde it could be used for magazines, logs or just even as a side table.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
