    Antique English Moore Brothers Porcelain Cream Gilt Cherub Cacti Mantle Clock Timepiece

    A Very unusual and possibly quite rare English Moore Glazed Porcelain Mantle Timepiece Clock of impressive proportions. The circular 7cm. dial of ormolu with Arabic numerals, the circular porcelain case moulded with flowering cacti supported by twin standing winged Cherubs, on a shaped scroll moulded acanthus base. Last quarter of the Nineteenth Century.

     
    Condition: In overall very good condition with no imperfections except for one cherub is lacking part of its wing, see image, some light staining at back no evidence of any restoration, wear to gilding at high points and a few small losses to decoration, This Clock has been recently serviced and is in perfect working order complete with original key.
     
    Height: (overall) 9.25" (23.5cm). Width: (at widest) 9.75" (25cm). Base Protrudence: (at center) 6.5" (16.5cm).

    Moore Brothers 1872-1905 a brief history:
     
    Bernard Moore and his younger brother Samulel Vincent Moore were manufacturers of China Tableware, high quality ornamental items to include Mantle Clocks and Fluid Lamps, almost using cream grounds wih gilt highlights, some decorative pieces were also hand painted in colours. The factory was located in St. Mary’s Works, Longton, Staffordshire, England, employing up to one hundred and fifty people by 1881.
     
    In September 1905 their original moulds were sold to Thomas C Wild.
     
    Bernard Moore moved to premises at Wolfe Street, Stoke, on his own he became a “Consultant Potter” making pieces with spectacular glazes.
