Antique Early 19th Century Cased Leather Bound Three-Draw Telescope c1820

A good, early 19th Century cased and leather bound three-draw telescope c1820. Three-draw brass telescope with leather-bound barrel. Brass protective cap to objective lens and sliding dust cover to eyepiece. Relatively large achromatic objective lens approximately 4.3 cm in diameter with extending hood. Excellent optics. Original lacquered finish to brass. Original oilcloth covered case. Closed length is 24 cm. Fully drawn length is 81 cm. Cased measurement is 25.5 cm in length and 6 cm in diameter.
This telescope is in overall very good condition. Leather to barrel is in used but very good condition. Brass retains its lacquered finish which has some signs of use. Smooth draw action. Optics in excellent condition. Case in used but very good condition. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.

Day or night telescopes were commonly used on board ship. As the name suggests, they could also be used at night because they had relatively large objective lenses to collect the maximum amount of light. Telescopes of this kind were particularly valuable to watch officers stationed on deck at night.
