Crouching Venus in dark brown patina bronze after Antoine Coysevox (1640-1720)
This bronze is an edition of the nineteenth century from the marble by Antoine Coysevox who was himself inspired by the antique. Coysevox favorite sculptor of the King and of Hardouin-Mansart, executes for Versailles baroque and after the antique works even though he never went to Italy! In particular the marble replicas of the crouching Venus and Venus in the shell. Today, the marble sculpture is located in the Louvre, it was replaced by a replica in bronze at the Château de Versailles. Our bronze model is resting on a grey marble base.
