Circa 1880, Black Forest carved fruitwood tea caddy. The top is surmounted by two carved birds sitting above a nest, which is set amongst a rustic background. The serpentine shaped caddy is profusely carved all over with foliate leaves and vines. Inside there are two divisions with lids and turned knob handles. There is a stylish apron all around the base and the feet are carved and scrolling pieces of wood with leaves on the knees. Wonderful colour and patination, substantial in size.
