A wonderful antique English Victorian silver claret jug with hallmarks for London 1860. The maker's mark is from the renowned female London silversmith Elizabeth Ivary, who registered her mark on 29 Oct 1860 from St James Walk, Clerkenwell. It has the most wonderful engraved decoration. There is no mistaking its unique quality and design, which is sure to make it a treasured piece by any discerning collector. Elizabeth Ivary She took over the business from George Ivary who apparently emigrated to Australia. My reference does not tell me Mrs Elizabeth Ivary's relationship to the absent George but she does not seem to have been his wife. Elizabeth Ivary only ran the business until July 1861 when it was taken on by Alfred Ivary with a consequent change of mark to AI. There is no mistaking its unique quality and design, which is sure to make it a treasured piece by any discerning collector. It has the most wonderful engraved decoration. Measurements: H 30cm x W 20cm x D 13cm It weighs approx 26 troy ozs Condition: Excellent
