A beautiful large antique English Victorian solid silver cup or goblet. With hall marks for London 1864. This work bears the mark of the renowned London silversmith William Smily and is really something to behold. This elegant piece features beautiful engraved decoration and is sure to make an outstanding contribution to your collection. Measurements: Weight approx. 13 oz. H 22cm x Diam 12cm Condition: Very good William Smily William Smily (1792-1865) worked for the prestigious firm of AB Savory & Co and became their works manager. AB Savory & Co was established in 1812 and was very successful for many years eventually incorporated in the Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co Ltd. Smily designed all sorts of objects: goblets, ewers, coffee pots, spoons etc. All his designs have got amazing attention to detail and very soon his works became sought after. Smily?s success as a silversmith may be further gauged from his estate which was valued at between ?5,000 and ?6,000 at the time.
