This 90cm by 76cm Victorian sign depicts a water bailiff carrying a shotgun under his arm and holding a dead game bird. The large wording around the top of the sign reads, Birmingham Canal company, the smaller wording next to the gamekeeper reads, it’s illegal to fish or take game from the canal, Poachers will be prosecuted by order.Although this Victorian sign has some minor damage, its plaster and paintwork are in relatively good condition for an item that had once been fixed to an outside fence beside the Birmingham canal.
