Circa 1880, Victorian copy of an Adams oval carved mahogany wine cooler. The plum pudding mahogany top has a flat fore edge above a double section with extensive carving. On the first one section are arches with curved balls in the centre and beneath this a double wave with a small roundel in the centre. Inside the lid there is a flame mahogany panel. The body inside is lined in zinc with brass nuts for the lifting handles on each side. The body is tapering and profusely carved with classical Adam features. In the centre on the front and back there is a carved head of Bacchus. At each side of it there is a series of swags and tails, with dripping bell drops tapering down. At each end there are cast brass lion mask handles with ring pulls through the mouth. At the base there is a beading that runs around the circumference and then an area with stylish fluting. The whole piece stands on 4 square feet with an elegant taper as they leave the body of the wine cooler. Beautiful stylish piece of furniture.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
