These Buddhas sit in the 'earth witness' mudra. This mudra, formed with all five fingers of the right hand extended to touch the ground, symbolizes the Buddha's enlightenment under the bodhi tree, when he summoned the earth goddess to bear witness to his attainment of enlightenment.This is folk art meaning that this pair was not made by a carving artist but mostly by farmers who carved this during raining seasons and placed it at the temple for good luck or other reasons. If there is interest, I will provide other details/information available prior to purchase.
