    a 19th century casket in wood marquetry and porcelain plates signed vervelle-audot

    A rectangular inlaid wooden casket and porcelain plates and its key with rich gilt bronze mounts chiselled with flowery garlands, foliages and small birds going towards their nest. Friezes of pearls decorate the three faces and lid of the casket. The main facade and the top of the lid have two respectively one "vieux Paris" oval porcelain medallions depicting polychromatic bunches of flowers on white and blue background heightened with a rich ormolu frame. The drop-leaf lid discovers an inside with three small wooden drawers and several compartments to tidy up jewels. Signed on the lower crossbar "Vervelle Audot, 1 rue Montmorency Feydeau Paris".


    Cabinet maker, manufacturer and furniture dealer, Audot held in 1825 a store Neuve-Montmorency street in Paris before taking back in 1856 Vervelle House . He created all kind of small pieces of furniture, boxes and caskets, liqueurs cellars and nécessaires. He also participated at the exhibitions of products of the industry in 1827, 1844 and 1855. Several furniture drawings realised by Maison Vervelle are in the Decorative Arts Museum in Paris.
