This beautiful mahogany ''Jupe'' dining set is in the Regency style and is very functional. With the leaves attached around the circumference it is 210cm ( approx 7ft ) in diameter and would seat 10 people in comfort and 12 at a pinch.. With the leaves removed, it is 155 cm ( approx 5 ft) in diameter, and would seat up to 8 people. The flame mahogany veneers on the top have been arranged so as to give a sunburst effect and it is finished off by the inlaid shell at the centre. It is very solid as there is a beautiful centre base with four columns terminating in sabre legs with brass toe cap castors. This gives the table it''s superb stability. You pull out some slides, see photos, from the sides of the table and fit the leaves on them by sliding them onto the table and securing them with brass clips, which are located underneath. There is an attractive matching mahogany cabinet in which the leaves are housed when not in use. This fascinating table illustrates all the very best elements of English cabinet-making combined with the remarkable burst of inventiveness of the Industrial Revolution. It was not until John Johnstone and Robert Jupe patented their ingenious design in March 1835 for an expanding round table, that round dining tables, which had suffered from the problem of not offering flexibility of seating, could compete with the established rectangular extending dining tables. There is no mistaking the fine craftsmanship of this handsome table, which is certain to become a treasured addition to your furniture collection, and a talking point with guests at meal times. The classic and sophisticated design of the 10 Regency style mahogany dining room chairs compliment the table beautifully. They are typical of Regency style furniture. This style was prevalent in England during the regency (1811-1820) of George, Prince of Wales. He later become known as George IV.The chairs have elegantly carved frames with fabulous swags to the backs. The drop in seats have been beautifully upholstered. They have been lovingly French polished and are ready to grace your dining or conference room.Condition This dining set is in superb condition. Please see photos for confirmation of the condition. DimensionsTableFully extended: 210 cm in diameter and 78 cm in height. With leaves removed : 155 cm in diameter.ChairsThe 10 chairs are approximately 48 cm wide, 46 cm deep and 105 cm high.
