19th century neoclassical gilt overmantle mirror

This is a large 19th Century neoclassical gilt and gesso Overmantle Mirror.

It has a deep overhanging cornice with gilt ball decoration, and is flanked by Corinthian columns capped with very handsome well defined capitols.The frieze depicts a powerful scene featuring the Phrygian Goddess Cybele on a chariot pulled by 6 lions. (See below)The triple plate glass mirrors are original with bevelled edges. Reflection is true and bright, but there are some marks and damage to the silvered backing, notably on the 2 outer plates.The frame is in very good condition, there are shrinkage cracks to the figures on the frieze and they have pulled away from the background in places, but they remain solid and firm.It has its 4 original ebonised wood bun feet, for standing on a mantle pieceCybele ...
In Greek mythology Cybele was considered an exotic foreign mother protector figure, often portrayed in processions as arriving in a lion-drawn chariot to the accompaniment of wild music, wine, and a disorderly, ecstatic following.
