the vintage 9ct gold five fire opal and diamond ring

A ring, circa the late 20th century, set with five oval mixed-cut fire opals, interspersed with eight cut diamonds for maximum sparkle. The fire opals themselves, totalling 0.90ct, are a deep orange colour, vivid and lustrous, with each facet shining brilliantly. Fire opals, often of Mexican origin, are prized for their strong, warm colour, most desirable in the shade seen here. The opals are claw-set in a scrollwork gallery, with eight eight-cut diamonds totalling 0.05ct interspersed between them, which wonderfully contrast with the bright stones and give the head of this ring extra interest and flair. The gemstones graduate in size from the centre stone, leading to simplistic shoulders, finished with split detailing. The shoulders frame the intricate ring perfectly, allowing the stones to sing and the detailed swirling gallery to take the spotlight.
The shoulders of this ring lead to a plain polished band, stunningly simplistic and comfortable on the finger. Inside the band, a hallmark. The iconic anchor stamp of the Assay Office of Birmingham sits beside the number '375', indicating this ring is 9ct gold. This ring also has a sponsor mark, 'GJ', and is stamped 'DIA' for diamond. The hallmark, though small and dainty, is crisp and clear, easily legible under magnification. When worn, the piece is striking; its colour grabs attention, making it a conversation piece despite its relative delicacy. This ring is fabulous for daytime wear, where the sunlight will let the stones sing, or fabulous as you transition to the evening.
