This gorgeous ring, circa 1880-1901, the late Victorian era, holds five lively old European cut diamonds within its head. The central stone is the largest, and the stones graduate down in size from here, each diamond glistening with hand-cut charm. The diamonds are held well, claw set in yellow gold. The settings allow light to reach each facet of the diamonds, furthering their sparkle and brilliance. Unlike modern brilliant cuts, old European diamonds have larger facets and a more visible culet, giving them broad, warm flashes of light rather than a sharp, even sparkle. Each stone is slightly different, with its own shape and character.
The shoulders of this ring feature three engraved dots on each side, the perfect embellishment to this stunning piece. From here, the shoulders slope into a yellow gold band with a plain, polished finish. Inside the band is where we see the hallmark. This is where the age of this ring becomes more apparent, as the hallmark has rubbed over years of loving wear, though it still allows us to glimpse the crown and '18' stamps. This confirms the ring is crafted in 18ct gold, the same fineness it has been electronically tested and assessed as. A stunning piece, perfect to add to your jewellery collection and wonderful for daily wear.
