the antique post edwardian 1916 five diamond boat ring

This gorgeous ring, handcrafted in the Edwardian style, holds five sparkling old European cut diamonds: at the heart of the head, the largest of the five glints in the light, complemented by the yellow gold claws holding it in place. The stones graduate in size from the centre, each hand-cut and slightly unique, the pierced gallery allowing light to hit them from different angles, perfectly bringing out the colour and sparkle of the sapphires and diamonds. With colour assessed to be between H-I, the diamonds in this ring total 0.20cts and have a wonderful antique charm, grain set in a navette or boat-shaped head, a popular style pre-Art Deco era.
The graduating stones work perfectly with the gently sloping shoulders of the piece, finished with a lined, triangle pattern that further elongates the boat-shaped head. The shoulders slim into a plain, polished band. Inside the band, a hallmark and maker's mark, still legible after so many years. The maker's mark reads 'JH', next to a hallmark that tells us that this ring is 18ct gold, certified by the Assay Office of Chester. Next to the Three Wheat Sheaves of the Chester Assay Office, closed in 1962, is a date letter - 'Q' for 1916/1917. The gold itself has a rich buttery yellow gold tone, and the band is slim and comfortable to wear. A wonderful ring to stack with others or wear alone.
