    Antique Silver Gilt Coffee Pot By Hunt & Roskell London 1850

    A stunning Russian style silver gilt coffee pot by John Samuel Hunt of the Royal Goldsmiths Hunt & Roskell.
    This beautiful silver-gilt coffee pot is of baluster shape with a hinged onion dome top and finial and a stepped base. Wonderfully and highly decorated with unusual repousse motifs, strap work and highlighted by matting relief. The handle is silver with ivory insulators. This exquisite piece of silverware is in excellent condition with no dents, scratches or engravings.
    It weighs 31.7 ozs, 900 grams.

    The hallmarks on the base are clear and well-defined and include ISH for John Samuel Hunt, Hunt & Roskell late Storr Mortimer and Hunt. The sterling silver lion, The London leopards head, the date letter for 1850 and the duty mark of Queen Victoria's head in profile The top has matching partial marks of the sterling lion, date mark for 1850 and ISH with a crown above denoting the royal warrant for John Samuel Hunt.
    John Samuel Hunt was the nephew of Paul Storr and joined the firm of Storr and Mortimer in 1826. He worked with Paul Storr until Storr's retirement in 1838. The firm of Hunt & Roskell was formed when John Mortimer retired and Robert Roskell, a brilliant watchmaker from Liverpool was invited to join. John Samuel Hunt was commissioned to make pieces for the Russian Royal Family and for the British Royal Family to give as gifts to their cousins. The Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg has one of the finest collections of English Silver including works by Hunt & Roskell.

    This is a rare, unusual and highly attractive piece of silverware and would grace any collection.
