This is a large oval antique overmantle mirror. An English, gilt gesso lounge or hall mirror, dating to the Georgian period and later, circa 1800.
- Generous, expressive form and presenting attractive colour
- Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
- Wonderful golden hues enhance the craftsmanship of the gilt gesso frame
- Charming, later glass plate with minimal foxing and of bright, reflective quality
- Classical Italianate taste with prominent surmount and grape motif to the deep frame
- Fascinating eagle relief adorns the surmount, looking out over the mirror
- Dressed with a robust chain to rear, ideal for wall mounting
