Important group in Carrara marble after the antique representing a wrestler triumphant over his opponent, on a base in the naturalist style. The modeling of the work, deliberately excessive, helps to convey the virulence of the struggle. Note, part of a finger missing and restored by our workshop. Very high quality of execution. The ancient marble group from which this bronze is inspired was discovered in 1583 near Porta San Giovanni in Rome. In June of the same year, the group was purchased by Cardinal Ferdinand de Medici, future Grand Duke of Tuscany, and is kept in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence.
